Now in its ninth year, the Pan-London Cancer Alliances Research Consortium is pleased to announce a new round of 12-month cancer research fellowships for 2024/25.

Since 2015, cancer alliances across London have come together through the Pan-London Cancer Alliances Research Consortium to fund a number of cancer research fellowships to improve cancer care and experience.

The South East London Cancer Alliance, in partnership with King Health Partners’ Comprehensive Cancer Centre, will lead the recruitment for a research fellow to be based in south east London.

The areas of focus for this year’s fellowships are:

  • Earlier diagnosis: with a focus on access into primary care and/or diagnostics, or increasing uptake into cancer screening programmes from a population or place-based approach.  Also including aspects of improving detection of recurrent cancer and/or surveillance strategies for those who are high risk.
  • Cancer inequalities: exploring variations in all aspects of cancer care throughout the patient journey, including screening, treatment and supportive care.
  • Personalised care of people living with and beyond cancer: optimisation of patient management during and after cancer treatment to improve quality of life and clinical outcomes, including multi-morbidity reviews and generation of evidence base for the cancer care reviews.

Who can apply?

The fellowships are open to medical and non-medical professionals who do not currently hold a PhD or MD. Non-medical professionals will include nurses, allied health professionals, health scientists and Clinical Research Practitioners.

What does the appointment process involve?

The process will be in two stages:

1. August – October

Potential supervisors will be invited to submit brief proposals, which will form the basis of a shortlist selected by the South East London Cancer Alliance.

2. October – December

An advertisement - based on this shortlist - will be issued for potential fellows to submit joint applications for the proposed project, alongside the supervisor with whom they wish to work with.

Please see the guidance document here for more details. Initially, potential supervisors are asked to submit project titles and a short brief describing the project using the proposal template here

Project proposals should be submitted to kate.haire@gstt.nhs.uk and Mishal.Patel@gstt.nhs.uk by Sunday 6th October 2024

For any queries about the process, please contact Kate Haire, Joint Clinical Chair SELCA on: kate.haire@gstt.nhs.uk
