Experiential learning on a range of evidenced-based motivational interviewing and behaviour change approaches for South East London
Please note that this is a two half-day training course - you only need to book onto Day 1 , Healthy Dialogues will then send you calendar invitations for both Day 1 and Day 2.
You can register for either:
- Wednesday 25th June (& 2nd July) 2025,
- Wedesday 17th September (& 24th Sept) 2025,
- Wednesday 12th November (& 19th Nov) 2025, or
- Wednesday 4th (& 11th March) 2026

About the training
In this course participants will explore a range of evidenced-based motivational interviewing and behaviour change approaches and how to apply them to practice.
This will include engaging with individuals for the purpose of brief interventions, exploring the factors that hinder and facilitate change and developing an action plan with individuals to make and sustain behaviour change.
By the end of the course Practitioners will:
- Explore their own knowledge, beliefs and understanding of behaviour change and aspects of their current practice that work well.
- Know the value of working collaboratively with their clients and how to do it well.
- Know how to support patients through ambivalence and discord
- Have gained skills and tools to support behaviour change and its maintenance.
Training will be delivered over two half-days.
Day 1 highlights:
- Introduction to self-management and cancer and an exploration of what we already know and what we can build on.
- Introduction to what Motivational Interviewing is and the principles by which it flourishes.
- Overview of the four processes of Motivational Interviewing
- Communication micro-skills training
Day 2 highlights:
- Reflections on skills and principles in practice
- Motivational Interviewing strategies – skills training
- Putting it all together – experiential learning
All training will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. Please ensure you have a confidential space and IT access, with a camera and microphone to attend before registering.
